Breakfast Balls September 2026: Scottie Won’t Stop, Rory Goes Part-Time & Medinah Was Built for Women

Scottie Scheffler’s “off year” is officially ridiculous, Rory might be embracing life as a part-time golfer, and Medinah has a history you probably didn’t know. Plus, September equipment deals, the...

Golf is good. The deals are better.

September might be the best month of the golf year. Cooler temps, great course conditions, football from the golf cart...and some of the best equipment pricing of the season.

Let's get after it!

3 THINGS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT

1. Scottie Scheffler's "Off Year" is getting ridiculous.

Remember when the big story was how many second-place finishes Scottie had? Well...he figured that out.

Scottie won two of the final three events, including the Tour Championship, and finished the year with a ridiculous 67.86 scoring average.

He also passed Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour's career money list, topping $130 million. And after switching to TaylorMade's new Qi4D driver, his average ball speed is reportedly north of 181 MPH—well above his 2025 average.

So much for the "down year."

2. Is Rory Going Part Time?

Rory played just 14 Tour events in 2026, and lately, he seems ready for a little less golf and a little more life.

As Rory put it: “Once you lose your enthusiasm to go to the course, it is time to take a break.”

With a young family and an already legendary career, maybe a little time away is exactly what he needs.

Selfishly, we want the passionate Rory back—the emotional Rory, the fired-up Rory, the guy who finally won the Masters and had all of us reaching for a Kleenex. Golf is better when Rory is having fun.

3. President's Cup Course Medinah was originally built...for women.

You know Medinah. The iconic clubhouse. The Miracle at Medinah. Tiger's 1999 PGA Championship battle with a particularly salty Sergio García.

But here's a fun one: Medinah was originally built in 1928 for women only.

The club eventually wanted to host major championships, so they brought in an architect to lengthen and "toughen" the course.

Personally? I kind of like the original idea. (I know my wife, mother and sisters do!)

An iconic golf course reserved for the ladies.

2 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

1. 💰September = DEAL SEASON.

If you've been waiting to upgrade your gear, now is the time. A few of our favorites:
And that's just the beginning. Stop into your local Austad's and let one of our fitters help you find the right equipment at the best prices of the year.

You know that club you've been eyeing all season?  It's probably cheaper now.

2. The Built-In Simulator Room is having a moment.

For five years, Austad's has been one of the country's largest and most trusted distributors and installers of residential and commercial golf simulators.

The big trend we're seeing this year?  Built-in simulator rooms as opposed to cages within a room.

They look incredible, they're durable, and they turn your simulator into a legitimate year-round golf destination.

Because if you're playing Augusta and Pebble Beach from your basement...
the room better feel the part.

Thinking about a simulator? Our team can help with everything from the launch monitor to the screen, projector, computer, software and installation.  And the consultation is free.

1 MISSION MOMENT

The Boondoggle is coming.

Every September, our Austad's team gets together with vendor partners, store managers, fitters and corporate staff for our annual Ryder Cup-style event:

Two days. Two teams. A lot of golf. A few side bets. And, depending on who you ask, some very questionable handicapping.

It's one of my favorite traditions of the year. We get to celebrate another golf season, strengthen relationships, make memories and spend a couple of days doing what brought all of us together in the first place: Playing golf.

The teams?  Team Dave vs. Team Ryan.

We'll have pictures and results in October's Breakfast Balls. If you're putting money down, Vegas likes Team Ryan. 😉

⛳ Enjoy September!

Play some golf. Listen to your football team from the cart. And don't sleep on the deals. The best prices of the season are here.

Golf isn't just what we do. It's our passion.

See you on the course, and advance apologies if I bomb it into your fairway two holes over (still impressive distance, am I right??)
